Whether you have a paid subscription or a free trial perhaps for educational purposes, cleaning up stagnant or inactive online accounts will only protect you from identity theft or hacker impersonation attempts. It’s not as obvious or easy as one would think to delete a user account created on GitHub. I have deleted my GitHub account with these step by step instructions
- Log in to the GitHub account you want to delete
- From the upper right, click your profile picture or default image if you have not changed it
on the left side, select Account - Scroll down to the very bottom and select Delete Account
- Important message pops up stating you will delete all of your repositories.
- Enter your username or email address, type “delete my account” in the space.
- Click Cancel plan and delete this account
